Soundtracks of Disney's Pixar movies just went live in Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, KLCC a couple of days ago on Friday and Saturday. I'm so grateful that I went for the show on Friday. Mind you, here I'm talking about songs being featured in Toy Story 1-3, Monsters Inc., Ratatouille, Up, Brave, Cars, Wall-E and more. It's DISNEY's PIXAR, babeh!! In MPO!!
It was my third visit to the MPO theatre. This time, the orchestra performances was complemented by a huge projector screen that displayed scenes from the featured movies. It was like watching music videos with live orchestra music and it was magical. I cannot describe how exactly I felt while watching the show.. They started off with Pixar's introductory song (the one we always hear in cinemas before a Pixar movie starts) and I'm already mind-blown.
It was so different from the usual classical orchestra! I couldn't help feeling in awe.
We have been so lucky to have such abundance of these playful, cute, expressive, uniquely amazing musics to complement those wonderful cartoons. They are, in fact, a very important factor that helps bringing us into the mood during the movies. And I blame myself for not paying enough attention to such beauty back then. I blame myself for not taking the time to appreciate the fact that those magical songs are actually composed by human. That they are a huge combination of sounds produced from different instruments. Who would have thought that a blow of woodwind or brass, a strung of guitar, strokes of violin etc. when played together in a certain way can produce such magic?
Here are some of my favourites. Let's feel the magic together:
Of course, those movies are a wonder themselves. The truth is, I teared up at the concert during Up and couldn't hold it in anymore at the final scene of Toy Story 3... I'm always inspired by people-- adults, especially-- who are able to produce interesting and meaningful stories for children as well as grown-ups. They remind me of the saying "there's a child in every man". In this world full of materialism and what not, such pure goodness is true treasure.
Take home message:
1. Treasure the child in you, it's the fun part in life - and probably your best companion.
2. Never stop dreaming and reaching for the stars. It works wonders.
I'm ending this post with my warmest regards to the inspiring people who made this happen. Hats off to the composers, everyone in Pixar and the MPO musicians. :)
